Chinese Elm.
Acrylic on canvas, 90cm x 60cm
A beautiful example of this rare tree, found in the gardens of Cossington Park.
One of my favourite summer subjects with the summer sun creating patterns of light and shade.

A blue sky, clouds on the move and sun reflecting on the water as it races across the rocky shore.

La Vache Noire
Acrylic on canvas, July 2023.
Afternoon sun glinting off the Atlantic. I like the dynamism of the line of rocks cutting through the waves and leading the eye to the distant island.

Watch your toes!. It wouldn't be the first time I got caught out by the tide, especially at Port Blanc where the tide can really rush in.

Cossington Copse,

A time for wellies and a scarf on wintry days on the Polden Hills.

Wych Elm, Cossington Park. Summer.
Acrylic on board 30cm x 45cm
A beautiful tree in the gardens opposite. The twisting trunk has been an image I have often returned to. Here the summer breeze catches the heavy foliage.

Cossington copse.

One of a series of small landscsapes I made from sketches. Huddled in the studio as the winter light grew gloomy. This one looked more at suggesting texture through mark-making. Im pretty sure I used wooden forks and old kitchen knife on this one. Always worth a go.

February Sweet Track study
A sketch made with water soaking into my boots. Started in water colour then overworked with colour pencils and oil pastels.

Shapwick Heath February 2023.
A4
Winter trees against a faint glimmer of sun, the sound of rooks, a chill in the air, a quiet place of calm.

Shapwick Nature Reserve, March 2023
Pale sunshine, still reflections broken by the gliding swans.

Sunshine morning, coffee from a flask. Looking towards Kerfany across the Belon estuary.

Above Port Lamat, looking North.
A contrast between the textures and patterns of the cliffs and the simplicity of the flat sea and cloudless sky.

Doelan June 2023
Always love the classic image of the lighthouse at Doelan. You see so many photographs and paintings of it however that is a bit of a challenge to do something beyond the cliche. Unusually for me this is a straight watercolour. I love the shapes of the pine trees that form the foreground element and take some of the focus away from the "Phare Aval".
