Born in Middlesbrough in 1964, I studied Art at Cleveland College of Art and Fine Art at Canterbury College of Art and the University of Newcastle. I combined working as an exhibiting artist with roles as a part time lecturer and various Artist in Residence posts. I completed a PGCE in 1995, teaching first on the Foundation course at Sout

On a simple level it all begins with looking and drawing. Everything builds from that. A drawing is an investigation, a method of recording experience, of expressing ideas and emotions. The starting point is never the same, but the repetition of themes and methods of work creates a visual vocabulary that communicates something about the world I inhabit.
